The role and responsibility of media in today’s Society

The etymology of the term ‘Media’ goes back to medium which is any channel through which something is carried out. Media is nothing but any way of mass communication and reaching out to a large group of people.  The origin of media was through print mediums which were newspapers journals, magazines or books but now with the technology so advanced media now covers every possible source such as TV, radio, movies and most importantly internet. The major role of media in today’s world is help people obtain the right perspective through news and form an opinion about it.

It has been well said that media is the voice of the free world. People speak through media and also listen from it. It watches over the democracy and questions everything that is going on in the society and policies for their betterment. While the politicians create a ruckus media stands in their way making counter arguments in the defence and curiosity of people. Any type of change required in the society which needs the attention of the masses is being brought through them.

The social media has also joined in the battle where most of the prominent people are also voicing their opinions on day to day basis which reaches the people in seconds and everyday has some new discussion open forward. The students who would like to make this change and work for the betterment f the society should pursue mass communication courses from good universities. The ethics and morals associated with the media are huge, as it has been well said that’ with great power comes great responsibility.

In this globalised world everyone is well informed, thanks to media. There is still a lot of scope for improvement and that can be brought by a legit system this fourth pillar of democracy works through. More and more students should try to become the part of this industry as they are the ones who can shape a better future for the country and world at large.
